Tokens "Intercourse"
When Mitch Margo was around seventeen years old, he was probably the most depressed he had ever been in his life. Writing the songs for the "Intercourse " album was his therapy. He was telling himself 'It's Amazing To Be Alive' (which is the title of the short cut that opens the album). The label they were recording for at the time, Warner Bros., rejected this album. It was later released in a slightly altered form to fulfill a contractual agreement on the old B.T. Puppy label. Few copies were printed or shipped. Because it was listed in the B.T. Puppy catalog, collectors have been calling about it. So here it is...in it's original form...lost but not forgotten. Tracks: It's Amazing To Be Alive
The Tokens are now in their fourth decade of writing, recording and performing. Ask anyone who is in kindergarten and they have heard "The Lion Sleeps Tonight." This album not only keeps the classics alive with tracks such as "Come Go With Me," "In The Still Of The Night" and "Tonight I Fell In Love," but again provides The Tokens to be on pop music's cutting edge with the driving tribute, "30 Years Of Rock And Roll," the nostalgic title track "Oldies Are Now," the haunting "Just A Thought," and the bonus answering machine mini-track, "After The Beep." Tracks: The Lion Sleeps Tonight
Tonight The Lion Dances is a romantic 'Latin-Doo Wop-Dance' album sung in two languages. This album represents the Tokens at their creative best. Nice booklet and liner notes features dance steps for popular latin dances. Tracks: Swing (Suenalo)
The band blames this album on two things, Disney and O.J. Simpson. Because of the two they found themselves in the K-ROCK studios at 600 Madison Avenue in the Big Apple. (For those avid fans, the home of the Howard Stern Radio Show.) The Lion King had made The Lion Sleeps Tonight a semi-household name and Howard's gang of merry men had written a parody of it surrounding the O.J. Simpson murder case. So there they were, on the Howard Stern Show, singing a parody of their own song. When the interview was over The Tokens dazzled Howard and the gang with a little parody of their own.
